Construction

BIOCOMP wastewater treatment plants are constructed using Ecol-Unicon precast reinforeced concrete tanks. The standard technological line of the plant consists of:

I. Mechanical section:

  • grid and grit chamber or sieve-grit chamber dewatering screened solids and sand (replaces preliminary settling tank)

II. Biological section:

  • anaerobic mixing chamber
  • biological reactor

III. Settling section:

  • secondary, radial settling tank with a scraper
  • disc and screw press

Operation

BIOCOMP wastewater treatment plants consist of mechanical and biological parts. Mechanical treatment takes place in the sieve-grit chamber where screened solids are separated from sand. All solids separated in this way are retained in special containers. After mechanical treatment is completed the wastewater is pumped into biological treatment unit. First it goes into the anaerobic chamber then to the reactor where the processes of nitrification and denitrification take place. Horizontal air supply units supply air to the reactor in order to support the biological processes inside the biomass. Next the wastewater goes into the secondary, radial settling tank with a scraper, which removes sludge from the bottom together with all impurities floating on the surface. Then the wastewater is transported via overflow and pipelines for further technological processing. Surplus sludge is directed to mechanical dewatering and later to utilisation with optional liming.

 

Results

Operation of already existing BIOCOMP wastewater treatment plants shows that the average levels of measurable particles at the outflow are much below the limits stipulated by Polish provisions of law.

Operation and Maintenance

Operation of the wastewater treatment plant is fully automatic and controlled using BUMERANG system. Operation of chambers and air supply units is easy. However, periodic inspections are essential. Access to all the devices is provided without the need to empty the chambers or stopping the process inside the plant. The average energy consumption per 1 m3 of wastewater is 0.50-0.70 kWh depending on the size of the plant.

There is a possibility to adapt the size of the wastewater treatment plant to the individual needs of the users, also above 1000 m3/d.
